Hortia Launch: An Art Deco and Art Nouveau Autumn
This September, we’ll be unveiling Hortia, a new autumn design by Anna, available as wallpaper, fabric, and lampshade. Launching in two seasonal colourways – Prullian Blue and Sepia Brown – this fluid, intricately hand-drawn print is perfectly attuned to autumn’s softer light and shifting palette.
A Handcrafted Design Rooted in Decorative Tradition
Hortia was inspired by Anna’s visit to Brussels last year, where she spent time immersed in the city’s rich decorative heritage. A recognised hub of Art Nouveau in the late 19th century, Brussels played a key role in shaping both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements.
Anna’s new Hortia design draws from this, combining the curved lines and floral motifs of Art Nouveau with the balanced geometry and stylised detailing of Art Deco. Its movement and detail echo the organic shapes of Art Nouveau, while its structure reflects the clarity of Art Deco. Yet there’s something unmistakably English in its execution – a gentle charm, a nod to the Arts and Crafts tradition, and a soft, sixties rhythm. Hortia feels both familiar and new, thanks to Anna’s seamless, tactile blend of Art Deco styling.
As with all of Anna’s work, Hortia evolved organically through a handcrafted process. It began as a pencil drawing, with mirrors used to explore symmetry, repetition, and flow, gradually forming a composition that is intricately detailed yet fluid. Fans, scallops, stylised leaves, and floral forms – signatures of her aesthetic – were refined, coloured, and layered into a seamless repeat.
A Seasonal Shift in Interior Design
As autumn arrives, our interiors begin to reflect the changes that are taking place outside. Light softens, textures deepen, and there’s a growing desire for warmth, comfort, and calm. Introducing new elements – through fabric, wallpaper, or lighting – can subtly echo the mood of the season indoors.
Whether used as a fabric or wallpaper, Hortia adds texture and warmth to autumn interiors. Refreshing an interior needn’t be dramatic.
